Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center

The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, better known as ARTIC, serves as a train station for Amtrak intercity rail and Metrolink commuter rail, as well as a bus station used by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART), Greyhound, Megabus, and Tres Estrellas de Oro.

The station opened in 2014 and replaced a nearby depot and train platforms used by Amtrak and Metrolink.

Enabled Consultants provided network engineering services and operational support for the Metrolink Customer Information System platform signs and LCD electronic signage.

Dispatch & Operations Center

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) / Metrolink Dispatch and Operations Center (DOC) in Pomona, California is the dispatching hub for Metrolink train service, including other passenger and freight carriers which traverse the SCRRA territory, making it one of the nation’s busiest and most complex rail networks.

A key part of the new Dispatch and Operations Center Project was the construction of a new primary data center facility to house SCRRA’s mission critical IT equipment.

Enabled Consultants provided technical consulting in various areas including: Network Design, Network Engineering, Operations Support, and Disaster Recovery Planning.

Ticket Vending Machine Cellular Backhaul

Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) / Metrolink, a joint powers authority that was formed in 1991 and comprises five county agencies. Metrolink operates 59 stations and facilitates 44,000 daily boardings, all over a 536 route-mile network.

Metrolink operates a network of ticket vending machines (TVM) that are hardline connected at each station. Station construction projects often required the relocation (temporary or permanent) which caused service interruptions resulting in lost revenue and customer dissatisfaction. Enabled Consultants was asked to design and demonstrate a cellular data backhaul prototype as an alternative to the landline network.

Enabled Consultants provided network design and engineering services to successfully demonstrate the cellular backhaul prototype at several station locations throughout the SCRRA operating region.

Perris Valley Line Expansion Support

Construction of the 91/Perris Valley Line began in October 2013. Led by the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), the 91/PVL is the first extension of Metrolink service since the Antelope Valley Line was built in 1994. The 91/PVL is continuing rail service 24 miles from the Downtown Riverside Station. The project also included construction and rehabilitation of railroad tracks, upgraded at-grade crossings and improvement of existing tracks. The 91/PVL will provide greater access to Southern California’s commuter rail network for residents in Menifee, Murrieta, Temecula, San Jacinto, Hemet, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar.

Enabled Consultants provided project management support in preparation of revenue services on the PVL (Perris Valley Line). Enabled Consultants also provided services supporting the communication system network at the permanent crew base building at the South Perris layover facility and passenger station Customer Information System (CIS) and Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) systems.

Los Angeles Union Station Customer Information System

Los Angeles Union Station is the largest railroad passenger terminal in the western United States. Serving more than 60,000 passengers a day, the station is the region’s primary transit hub, connecting Southern California counties and providing access to Amtrak long distance trains, Amtrak California regional trains, Metrolink commuter trains, Metro Rail subway and light rail lines, plus bus service from LA Metro and other municipal operators, Greyhound’s Bolt service, Megabus, and the LAX Flyaway.

Enabled Consultants developed a custom customer information system (CIS) electronic signage control software to display train and bus schedules; display passenger announcements; and display emergency messaging throughout the station waiting rooms, passageways, and platforms.

Positive Train Control

Positive Train Control (PTC) is a life-saving innovation that will make travel by rail even safer. Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) / Metrolink was the first commuter rail in the nation to implement this state-of-the-art technology, moving the agency significantly closer toward its goal of becoming the safest commuter rail in the nation.

Positive Train Control (PTC) is GPS-based safety technology capable of preventing train-to-train collisions, over-speed derailments, unauthorized incursion into work zones and train movement through switches left in the wrong position. PTC monitors and, if necessary, controls train movement in the event of human error. PTC may also bring trains to a safe stop in the event of a natural disaster.

Enabled Consultants provided project management services for the implementation of a new system wide MPLS backhaul network. In addition, Enabled Consultants provided engineering consulting services in various areas including: Network Design, Network Engineering, IT Infrastructure Operations, Data Center Planning, and Disaster Recovery.
